Our first team of football came out with a goalless draw versus their host, Istiklol (Tajikistan), in the opening of their group stage matches of the AFC Champions League, Group E. The match was held at 7 pm today at the Central Republican Stadium in the capital city, Dushanbe. With this result, the team gained their first point.
The first half of the match ended in a scoreless draw, although the team succeeded in controlling the maneuvering area early thanks to the strong performance of Asim Madibo and Ibrahim Qader, which made the Tajik team retreat backward, which paved the way for the attackers’ movements, as Al Moez missed more than one opportunity to score.
In the second half, the team continued their pressure, looking to reach the Tajik team’s net, but without much danger, as Istiklol relied on defensive clustering and closing spaces in front of the team’s players’ movements, while relying on counterattacks, so the play was confined to the middle of the field for much of the second half until the referee blew his whistle. The match ended in a goalless draw between the two teams.
